THE HAMPER

One evening, my brother and I returned home after a night out, drinking. I remember following right behind him to make sure he made it into his bed, intact. As he wobbled across the house toward his bedroom, He awkwardly took his socks off, almost falling to each side as he did. Half asleep, he detoured into the adjacent bathroom, lifted up the toilet seat – and just as I was about to turn away – watched him toss his socks in. Needless to say, I didn't dare look inside our hamper for weeks afterward.
